We can't say enough about Stationery Trends magazine! Launched several years ago, Editor Sarah Schwartz has worked wonders in elevating the taste level and trend awareness for our industry.
Stationery Trends Interactive is their recently launched online issue and it's equally fab! Crammed with great industry insider sources - we're proud to be included in the current Late Fall edition in a DIY feature.
This section features Green Paper Company envelope liners which are a great, easy embellishment for cards, stationery and invitations... perfect timing to dress up your holiday mailings.

October = Breast Cancer Awareness Month
We are all too, too aware of breast cancer- there are few of us who have not been touched by this heinous disease. Since 1985 October has been designated Breast Cancer Awareness Month dedicated to remembrance, hope, and to finding a cure.
The organizations dedicated to this cause are many and below are just a few of our personal crusades. Feel free to post a comment with the breast cancer non-profit that is near and dear to your, well, er... breast!

Mykea
Got Ikea? We all have a Billy bookcase or Lack table hanging around.
While at first glance, this might not be the greenest of products (vinyl manufactured by Avery Dennison) - but we can make a serious argument that it prolongs the life of what is often referred to as "disposable" furniture. Not only that, it gives designers another platform to license their work and all around breathes new life into old product.
So before you put that bookcase out in a garage sale... Give your studio, bedroom, trade show booth, store fixtures, office, kitchen, living room a lift - your Ikea just got a bold burst of color!

There's no doubt about it- Ikea packs a bang for the buck! But let's face it- surface finishes are not their forte. Getting tired of white? Or black? Pay a visit to MYKEA, an ingenious site dedicated to the fine art of embellishing Ikea goods.

New Year's Resolution- ClimateCounts.org Shopping
If you have some time this week... here's a great tool to start planning for the new year: Spend a few minutes on ClimateCounts.org and track some of the companies you support. You can see a breif report on the strides (or back steps) they've made in 2010 and what companies you feel you'd like to begin to support or continue to support in 2011.
Companies are graded on three levels- Stuck, Starting and Striding. Stuck = channel your dollars elsewhere and send an email with the easy to use template provided telling them to claim corporate responsibility and start making strides.
Starting = the seed has been planted but still a long way to go before the flower blooms.
Striding = the best place to spend your hard earned dollars. Also a great place to email and let them know their efforts have been noticed.Surprisingly, companies like Nike, General Electric and UPS scored high on the list, which you can search by rank for a quick reference. Equally surprising, Google and The Gap ranked in the low mid scores and Serta, Liz Claiborne and several companies that specialize in product for kids fell at the bottom of the list.
Be it resolved: Consume thoughtfully and carefully in 2011.

Clinton Climate Initiative
The former President is hard at work promoting awareness about climate change...
THE CLINTON CLIMATE INITIATIVE
The Clinton Foundation is immersed in combating climate change- deforestation, solar energy, waste management, quantifying energy usage, urban redesign of lighting, and the list goes on.
"The Clinton Climate Initiative (CCI) is working with government partners including Indonesia, Cambodia, Tanzania, Kenya, and Guyana to develop projects that enable local communities to be compensated for preserving and regrowing forests. Tropical deforestation represents around 15 percent of global carbon emissions – more than all the world’s cars, trucks buses, trains, and airplanes put together. Many countries cut down forests, or will be compelled to do so in the future, due to the economic benefits of activities such as logging and agriculture."
"Each year more than 13 million hectares of tropical forests are lost. Destroying forests not only releases carbon into the atmosphere through burning and decomposition, but also removes their ability to serve as "carbon sinks" –– natural reservoirs of carbon. We need forests to absorb and store carbon from the atmosphere and release oxygen. Forests help regulate the Earth’s water cycle, sustain a great diversity of plant and animal species, and directly support more than 750 million people."
The Clinton Foundation is raising awareness to make it more profitable for countries to preserve forests than to cut them down, create robust systems to measure the carbon content of forests, and actively involve local communities in the preservation of their forests."
With a special action plan in place for Earth Day- make a visit to the website to learn more. See what they have already accomplished, and while there, you can test your own knowledge about climate change by taking the climate change QUIZ.

Brandsmack is a digital alley for Oliver and Russel (see below). This page has a good bit more edge and a strong masculine hand. As you move your mouse pop up flash abounds and be sure to click often for unexpected surprises- a construction cone eating owl, for example. Named one of the Top 10 Sites for Designers by HOW magazine.
Brandsmack is a division of Oliver Russell and this parent site is playful and fun while remaining connected to a very result oriented vision. The company offers socially conscious grants and overflows with creativity.
Our fave: ALSO web design - a witty, retro cool, just makes you keep smiling site. Stay, play and check out every nook and cranny of this site... so fun! These guys and gals designed Reform School- and the talent thread is just plain web luv!
