Green Paper Company @ Poeme

It's always fun to see one of our favorite retailers evolve and on a recent trip to nearby Cincinnati, Poeme, has never looked better.

Sleek, modern, and fresh... with a slight nod to classic, we loved seeing our paper fixture amongst the carefully selected product offering.

Owners/Designers Phil and Kristin take poetic license and create some amazing invitations. We're honored to be a part of their selection!

Read the printed word.org

Think beyond the blog!! A great set of widgets for bloggers and/or web sites, a special icon for all you paper lovers out there.

ReadthePrintedWord.org is putting in the good word for keeping printed matter alive and well. You can download these vintage chic icons and post them as widgets to you own website or blog. There are ten different options to select from... such a great idea! (As long as that paper you are reading is recycled!) ;)

Their mission:

"We support the printed word in all its forms: newspapers, magazines, and of course books. We think reading on computers or phones or whatever is fine, but it cannot replace the experience of reading words printed on paper. We pledge to continue reading the printed word in the digital era and beyond."

Purr-fect packaging

Folks are loving the new packaging labels for our 12 pack solid collection.

We work pretty hard on eco-packing and strive to find better solutions to reduce waste. Recently resolved how to make our 12 pack packaging even more green by combining two labels in to one.

Front

Back

Original packaging two labels per pack

What? Didn't even know we had 12 packs? Check them out here- all solid color cards and envelopes are available in cello packed in 12s. So pick up a six pack of your fave color(s)!

Holiday Smarts

Amazing, ingenious...an altogether 'why didn't we think of that before' moment. While we wish we could take credit for this one - these perfect examples of re-use are from the fabulous Jessica Jones of the DIY blog, How About Orange.

Much like the adorable shaped (albeit usually ghastly colored) bows found in big plastic bags at your local mega mart - the difference is these little beauties are made from recycled magazines! You can find the quite simple step by step here. Go on, you have all the supplies to make this project now and spruce up your packages yet to be wrapped!

Shine On

We had our first snow here in Chicago this week. We knew it was coming but for some reason every year, we forget how beautiful it is until it comes - remembering for a minute what it might be like to be inside a snow globe.

Couldn't help but be inspired by the ethereal quality of the snowflakes - a bit like glitter...and you can't deny sparkle. Must be why our Silver Maple 30% pcw metallic stock (ahem, the only eco metallic stock out there) is so hot this season. Everyone is going for the bling! And we say, shine on!!

Mega Brands Implement Paper Policies

What do these mega brands have in common?
Their paper footprints just got a little lighter...

The Rainforest Action Network recently announced a commitment from H&M, The Gucci Group, Tiffany & Co. and Staples to examine their paper supply chains and eliminate all "rainforest" paper products- paper produced from endangered forests. Their decision to stop purchasing paper from companies that are widely known for actively destroying forests in Indonesia and elsewhere is a major step. Worldwide, the destruction of tropical rainforests accounts for twenty percent of the worlds annual greenhouse emissions... with Indonesia alone, accounting for eight percent.

Last Tuesday, The Gucci Group announced it's decision to implement an aggressive environmental paper policy as part of an environmental action plan the company is enforcing to help curtail climate change. This decision is a huge stride in leading the fashion industry to purchase responsibly harvested and recycled paper. According to The Paper Planet - " With its new policy, the Gucci Group has pledged to reduce the amount of paper it uses, eliminate fiber from high conservation value forests, and only to purchase recycled products or those certified by the Forest Stewardship Council by December 2010. With this policy, they are ensuring that all paper categories used by the group, from copy paper to shopping bags, do not come from endangered forests like those in Indonesia."

Great news for fashionistas worldwide, and, it looks like that little blue box just got a little greener!

Autumnal Ash

It's October, so there's no more denying, thinking that summer is still lingering - it's full on fall. We are loving our very own Ash and all hues of gray right now. Lovely with crisp whites. Bring on the cool!
